After losing three matches in a row in the BLAST.tv Austin Major, we’re out of the tournament.
It is with heavy hearts we fly back home to the Nordic after a disappointing result in Austin. Our Counter-Strike team was unable to hold back the opponents in Stage 1 and exited the tournament early after an 0-2 loss against Imperial.
Metizport started their run in the Major with a 1-13 defeat against Wildcard, a team notably featuring susp, former Metizport player. Later that same day Hampus “hampus” Poser led his team to battle against TYLOO, but this match ended in a similar fashion – 4-13, and just like that Metizport was on the brink of elimination.
The next day it became clear the team had recharged their battieres and approached their elimination game versus Imperial in a better fashion – the first map on Nuke ended 13-16, but it certainly could have gone either way. However, on the second map of the match the flow seemed to have vanished, and the team fell face first on Dust2, ending the map on a 2-13 score. And thus, after losing to the Brazilians 0-2, they were out of the Major.
It’s a tough result not only for the players but also for the whole organisation. Obviously, we had higher hopes for the team in Texas, and even though making it to the major – the first fully-Swedish team to do so in six years – is historical in itself, a couple of wins would have made all the difference now with hindsight.
For In-Game leader hampus, the result was somewhat expected. The 26-year-old Swede said, in a post-game interview, that he felt like with the current form of the team and the struggles the past months, all the match-ups were in the favor of the opponents. Still, hampus was happy about making it to the major with the squad, highlighting the historical feat:
“Obviously I’m very happy we got here, right? This is the first time in six years a Swedish line-up has done it (made it to the Major), and we’ve done it with minimal resources compared to tier1 teams.”
What awaits now for the team is the summer player break, and after that the work towards the top continues. We want to thank all our fans for supporting us and cheering us on despite the result, and we sincerely hope we can come back this fall and continue our uprise. Think about where we were mere two years ago, and now we’re here. The adventure has just begun.
