Metizport one match win away from Nordic Championship 2025; invited to Thunderpick World Championship EU Series

Our Counter-Strike team continue their tight competitive schedule, and after a successful run last weekend they are one best-of-three match away from a prestigious LAN next month.

Last Saturday Metizport showed up in Svenska CS-ligan 2025, clawing their way through the Group Stage and taking down Viperio and Northern Lights to secure their Play-In spot in the eight- team tournament, to take place on May 10.

Group A in Svenska CS-ligan, the online qualifier for Elisa Nordic Championship 2025 in Finland with $100,000 up for grabs, consisted of Northern Lights, Viperio, Lilmix and Metizport. Opening matches were played in a best-of-one format, whereas the Winner’s- or Loser’s games thereafter were best-of-threes. Metizport began strong in the opener against Viperio, sweeping the team aside on Ancient in a 13-7 fashion. Next up in the Winner’s Match was Northern Lights, and the clash began smoothly for Head Coach Ahmed “abdi” Abdi and co., securing the first map of Ancient by finishing 13-6. Next up was Anubis, and here it became clear Northern Lights had a lot of potential – the match was a nailbiter all the way through with an overtime to top it all off, but in the end the opponents were actually able to take a map of Metizport, equalizing the score in the match to 1-1. It all came down to the last map, Inferno, where Metizport had a superb start on the T-side, finishing the first half with 8-4 in rounds. However, the opponents had an equally good start once they switched to the attacking side, and quickly ran away with five rounds, taking the lead for the first time in the match. However, it was at 8-9 that In-Game Leader hampus had enough and gathered his men to find an end to the match, securing the last 5 rounds needed to run off with the victory.

At this point Metizport had secured their position in the four-team Play-In Stage, where the winner of each match-up will make it to the LAN event in Vasa, Finland. With a long wait until the 10th of May in order to let the second group of the tournament play their matches out, the schedule remains rather calm for the Swedish line-up until Monday next week when the Playoffs in Thunderpick World Championship 2025 EU Series begins, a stage which Metizport got an immediate ticket to due to being among the higher ranked European teams in the invite list.

The online tournament is in itself a qualifier for the Closed qualifier (yes, a qualifier on top of a qualifier) of Thunderpick World Championship 2025, in which four spots will be given to the $850,000 Main Event in Malta later this year. In the EU Series #1 tournament that Metizport are attending, there is only one spot to the Closed Qualifier given to the winner, but the competition contains a rather hefty prize sum of $25,000 to be awarded to the top 2 teams – $20,000 for the winner and $5,000 for the runner-up. The tournament sees many good teams attend, and among the Playoffs invites teams such as ENCE, NaVi Junior, OG, Fnatic and 9INE wait alongside Metizport.
