Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz had a successful first day with the squad, proceeding from group A with a 2-1 score. The day started off at noon with the opening match versus the Czech team UNiTY, a match that eventually ended 2-1 for Metizport. On the first map of Ancient, UNiTY’s map pick, Isak “isak” Fahlén swept the table with a 1.77 rating as his team saw a 13-7 victory. On the second map of Inferno, which was Metizport’s map pick, the team struggled to stay afloat and lost the grip of the match after the halftime break – 8-13 was the final result. It would all come down to the last map of Overpass, where Head Coach Vincent “vinS” Jozefiak could only watch as his team struggled on the attacking side, only stringing together three rounds before it was time to switch sides. Winning the pistol round as the defenders, Metizport then began mounting the comeback thanks to a massive performance by Nicolas “Plopski” Gonzalez Zamora, and the Czechs only gathered one single round as attackers to Metizport’s twelve. The full comeback was a fact – the match ended 13-10 and Plopski finished with a 2.25 rating. Now up 1-0 in the group, it was time to face the tournament favorites – GamerLegion.

Plopski said enough is enough on the last map versus UNiTY
Versus the 13th highest ranked team in the world, Metizport didn’t take their foot of the pedal for a second. On the first map of Inferno, thanks to great individual plays from AWPer David “forsyy” Bílý (who ended the map on 1.45 rating), the two teams were neck and neck up until the very end. The match went to overtime, where the opponents were finally able to run away with the map win after claiming the 36th round of the map, punching in a 19-17 finish. The second map came to be Mirage, where it was exactly the same story up until halftime – the teams kept trading rounds and the half ended 6-6. As the attackers however, stanislaw and co. fell behind only slightly, and despite another great showing from Plopski with a 1.63 rating, Metizport only managed to claim four rounds to GamerLegion’s seven, the match ending 10-13.

forsyy certainly proved his worth versus GamerLegion
It would all come down to the Decider match, where the Czechs once again waited. And interestingly enough, the map VETO looked exactly the same as the previous clash – Ancient, Inferno and Overpass. On Ancient Plopski and forsyy refused to let the opponents gain any form of confidence on their map pick, standing tall with 1.49 and 1.38 ratings, and the match ended 13-9 in favor of the Swedish-Czech duo. Inferno was up next, a map that UNiTY had claimed rather comfortably in the previous matchup, but now it was time for Nikola “Dragon” Boskovic to take the stick and be a real nuisance for the opposing side. The Serb was a constant menace through the map and finished on 1.75 rating as Metizport narrowly walked home with a 13-11 victory, winning the matchup in 2-0 fashion and securing the top 8 finish in the $30,000 tournament in Stockholm.

vinS was very vocal against UNiTY in the Decider
With the other groups being played today, tomorrow and Thursday, the ex-Wildcard duo vinS and stanislaw will have time to build a strong foundation together with the team ahead of the Ro8 match on Friday, where the winner proceeds to the semifinals and top 4. As usual, stay updated under “Schedule” on the website so you don’t miss the next match!
