The final day of $8,000 De_Airport Masters at LANDING: ZONE in Oslo, Norway started as early as yesterday, with all four semifinals kicking off at 10:00. Metizport’s opponent came to be Danish AaB esport, coming from a confident 2-0 finish versus the Americans in BOSS in yesterday’s knockout match. The quarterfinal maps ended up becoming Overpass (AaB’s pick), Nuke (Metizport’s pick) and Ancient as the decider map in the best-of-three series.
On Overpass, Metizport had everything but an easy start. Starting off on the defending CT-side, they were only able to piece together three rounds against the Danes’ nine, and on a 3-9 half they switched to the attacking side. Here, however, the tables turned entirely and thanks to a superb performance from David “forsyy” Bílý Metizport were able to make a full comeback to 12-12 and take the map to overtime. Despite close rounds from the Danish squad, Jack “Jackinho” Ström Mattsson held his nerve and led the team to victory with a 16-13 scoreline, securing the first map of the series. Bílý ended the map on 1.48 rating.
On Metizport’s map pick, Nuke, it was more like another day at the office. Nicolas “Plopski” Gonzalez Zamora and Isak “isak” Fahlén delivered the verdict to the Danes with 1.48 and 1.43 ratings respectively, pushing the cart up the hill with ease and helping Metizport to a 13-7 finish. Now it was time for the semi-finals.
In the semis Young Ninjas, NiP’s Academy team, waited. They also came from a 2-0 victory in the previous game, having mounted an incredible comeback from 3-9 against Lilmix Esports in the first map. On Dust2, the opponent’s map pick, forsyy once again showed his worth on the defending side, plucking down the attackers and leading Metizport to a 7-5 finish. Going over to the attacking side, it was more of an even frag distribution in the team and they all gave their share of energy in order to collect the needed six rounds for victory, the map finishing 13-7.
Going over to Nuke the boys had a superb start on the T-side. Nikola “Dragon” Boskovic finished the half with 2.17 rating with isak and forsyy not far behind, and it was clear who was dictating the tempo of the match. However, after a 9-3 finish in halftime and a switch to CTs, Metizport struggled after a lost pistol round and an oncoming sweep from Young Ninjas. The Academy team was able to make a huge comeback and equalize to 11-11. before Jackinho and co. had enough and closed down the last two rounds to finish the match 13-11.
This 2-0 finish secured them the spot in the Grand Finals, where $5,600 is on the line. It will be played tonight at 18:00 CET and will either be versus Polish squad Phantom or the Bulgarians in Acend, as the two are currently fighting on the last map in their semi-final match. Coaching staff Vincent “vinS” Jozefiak and Miguel “ner0” Videira are doing their best to prepare a great foundation for the team in order to make it all the way tonight.
